Surf's Up

While finishing up a new album that's expected to be released this summer, Pearl Jam will also record an extra track to be donated to an album benefitting the Surf Rider Foundation, a Southern California organization dedicated to cleaning polluted oceans and beaches. Eddie Vedder has long been an avid surfer and last year donated $50,000 to the foundation following a San Diego concert.

The Pearl Jam track will round out a lineup on "Mom: Music for Our Mother Ocean" that also includes original tracks from the Beastie Boys, Porno for Pyros, Primus, Everclear, and Jewel, as well as remakes as Silverchair doing the Trashmen's "Surfin' Bird", Pennywise doing the Beach Boys' "Surfin USA" and guitarist Gary Hoey teaming with pro surfer Donovan Frankenreiter on "Wipe-Out." Also featured are a Helmet version of Bjork's Army of Me" and Brian Setzer doing the old Bill Doggett tune "Honky Tonk".

The album is being compiled by Dave Kaplan and will be released by his San Diego-based Surfdog Records through Interscope in June.
